Registering a birth during the coronavirus outbreak - Leicestershire & Nottinghamshire


It's a question I've been seeing a lot of new Mummy's & Daddy's asking, so I've done a little research and found that all birth registration appointments have been suspended until further notice. I've copied the official information below from both Leicestershire & Nottinghamshire council from their 'registration services and coronavirus updates' page.

We will be updating details below and our FAQs as soon as we receive further guidance from UK Government. Any updates and changes will be published on this website first.

Registration of births - We are currently unable register births due to the outbreak of Coronavirus. There are currently special provisions in place so that you can put in a claim for child benefit and any tax credits without registering the birth. This message will be updated once Government restrictions have been lifted.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus): Registration of births is suspended until further notice. Please do not try to book an appointment online or by calling our Customer Service Centre. During this time, parents are now able make a claim for child benefit or universal credit before a birth is registered as previous restrictions have been lifted in the meantime.

Changes to services due to Coronavirus (COVID-19): We are currently unable register births due to the outbreak of Coronavirus. The requirement to register within 42 days has now been lifted.
