What does being a BANPAS member mean?

Those who have followed me for a while know how much I bang on about newborn safety, I like to mention it a lot to create as much awareness of it as possible as I take the safety of my little clients very seriously.

It may surprise you to know that the newborn photography industry is completely unregulated (which is worrying), so photographers like myself who think safety is key, have to take it upon ourselves to be trained and educated on how to ensure those beautiful images we create are done properly and in the safest way possible.

For example, if you see a gorgeous image like this. You may think that the baby here was supporting herself up:

But actually I created this using two images, with Dad supporting the baby at all times. I then combined these images in post-processing which is called a composite.

Being a newborn and baby photographer requires a unique set of skills and there is a worldwide organisation called BANPAS (Baby &Newborn Photography Association) to support photographers like me, which gives us access to safety training and resources that we can use to provide clients like you with a better service. Which I'm very proud to be a member of.
